INSTALL DEVELOPMENT VERSION (BETA SOFTWARE)
Browse to this page using your phone's web browser and download the apk file. Then use the "downloads" app to locate the file, and open it. Follow the prompts and install the app. Open the app and go to the settings menu (top right) and select "sign in". Follow the prompts to connect with a Google account. You won't lose files when switching to new versions.

Functionality in dev version
- ✓ spoken annotation: interpret or respeak a source recording
- ✓ tagging: long press on an item and select "tag", add speaker, language, OLAC Discourse type, or custom tag
- ✓ wifi-p2p sharing: pair your phone with another and sync all your files (they cannot publicly share your files)
- ✓ photo: capture a photo of the recording context, right after making a recording
- ✓ comments: enter a text comment after making a recording or adding a speaker (NB cannot be edited)
- ✓ backup: sync all content to your private Google Drive and to your other devices running Aikuma
- ✓ import: import a single audio file and manually enter the metadata
- ✓ bulk import: import a collection of audio files with metadata (new in July)
- ✓ segmentation: segment an audio source as a separate step before translation or respeaking
- ✗ segmentation: re-use a spoken annotation to make a new one with the same segmentation
- ✗ private sharing: share an item privately via Google Drive
- ✗ search: use the magnifying glass to search your items, or items that have been publicly shared
- ✗ consent: add a short recording to an item to give permission for it to be shared, and tag it as "consent statement"
- ✗ file list display: cleaner design
Development Priorities
- transcription: a website where users can listen to recordings and enter transcriptions, to be transmitted back to any devices that contain those recordings
- tag management: hide/reveal tags assigned by others, remove a tag you have added (useful for workflow management)
- localisation: prompts should be available in a variety of major languages, not just English
- video: translate a video, and replay the video along with the dubbed recording
- discovery: when media is shared, it is easy to discover Aikuma, install it, and open the media for translation
- file management: media files are stored, synced, and expired based on available storage and bandwidth
- hints: Aikuma is loaded with hints to help a new user
- informed consent: a standard consent statement is recorded in as many languages as possible, and played to people before they use the app
- language selection: a component for efficiently selecting a language, incorporating locale, GPS, and ethnologue
- pluggable architecture: dividing Aikuma into reusable components, to facilitate extensibility
- porting: iOS and HTML5 versions
How Aikuma works with the cloud

- Aikuma syncs data to the user's private Google Drive
- It supports local sync for off-grid applications
- Shared recordings are accessed via the public API
- External websites can provide additional services
- Shared records are indexed by OLAC and mirrored in the Internet Archive
Discourse types
